What Attracts Us to Great Design

I came across an amazing article in NYT today and I just had to share. The article talks about the psychology in what attracts us to great design, art, etc. They touch upon some pretty interesting facts like how Brain scan studies reveal that the sight of an attractive product can trigger the part of the motor cerebellum that governs hand movement. That explains why we reach out for attractive things and why I should never be allowed in art museums :-)

Did you know the color green can boost creativity and motivation and how window views of landscapes (lots of green!) can spur creativity in the workplace and can speed patient recovery in hospitals. Cool! Check out the article here.

Spotlight - Contemporary Chairs

I recently took a trip to Las Vegas to check out the furniture market. I had such a great time and saw some gorgeous pieces. I like to think the right piece of furniture can serve as both function and as art. Although I discovered some amazing new furniture lines (which I will spotlight in future posts), I wanted to pay homage to some of my favorite contemporary chairs.

Mixing Old and New

"Contemporary paintings and sculpture are happy with furniture of the past. Fabrics of contemporary colors and textures and suitable and appealing on old chairs. Old patterns seem excitingly fresh when rejuvenated by a contemporary palette. Modern lighting and ventilation enhance otherwise traditional rooms." Eleanor McMillen Brown
