Spotlight - Architecture in Charleston, SC

Lucy is off visiting a client in lovely Charleston, SC today. We would like to take this time to live vicariously through her trip and reflect on this wonderful town's unique charm and beautiful architecture.

The Pink House, the oldest stone building in Charleston, was built of Bermudian limestone at 17 Chalmers Street, some time between 1694 and 1712.

The Thomas Rose House, ca. 1735, is a rare survivor of the great fire of 1740, which decimated most of the original buildings in the old walled city. This residence features its original interior layout, though the exterior was modified at the turn of the nineteenth century.

The Calhoun Mansion, an Italianate manor house constructed in 1876, is the largest house in Charleston and one of the nation's finest post-Civil War houses.

This group of brightly painted restored houses, known as Rainbow Row, features Caribbean influenced colors.
